Creative Career 2022: Practice Makes New Possibilities

Workshops for Building Skills, Creativity, and Professional Opportunity 

These workshops, online and onsite, include Workshop 01: Data Visualization & Storytelling and Workshop 02: Community Listening in Design. Both workshops will equip you with skills, knowledge, and creative process through training and practices by professionals in the industry, preparing you for future challenges.

The Creative Economy Agency or CEA acknowledges the importance of preparing future Thai workers in terms of knowledge and creative talent, especially students and undergraduates who will soon enter the workforce. Thus, they are adaptive and ready for taking on new global challenges and changes that are sudden.

CEA, therefore, has come up with 2 online courses for creative professions that the job market demands and provided them via our online platform, CEA Online Academy, which has garnered public interest. These courses will take a deeper dive into the essential work process of creative professions through two workshops that are conducted by professionals who work in the creative industry. We call this project: Creative Career 2022: Practice Makes New Possibilities. These workshops will help you with building necessary skills, creativity, and creating future career opportunities. They, indeed, provide an experience that extends our limits for competitions and incurs a new generation of creative professionals and entrepreneurs for Thailand’s economic system.

Creative Career 2022: Practice Makes New Possibilities is composed of two hybrid workshops that help you become ready through practices, teach you necessary knowledge and skills through the creative process, provide you with experience and guideline from real creative professionals. This does not only create a learning opportunity for our youths, age 15-25, before entering internship by working with established businesses or enterprises but also gives them a kick-start to become an entrepreneur themselves. 

Objectives

1. To develop skills and to prepare for creative careers in the future through inspirational learning and hands-on experience.
2. To develop a group of creators through activities that lead to developing knowledge and skills that are necessary for building a new generation of entrepreneurs who work in the creative industry in the future.

Workshop 01: Data Visualization & Storytelling 
To turn information into graphics that are easy to understand by design and creativity

This will be conducted online and comprises 2 topics.

1. Topic: Data Visualization 
Date: 23 - 24 April 2022 (via Zoom) 
Time: 9.00-17.30 hrs.

onducted by Mr. Kasidis Satangmongkol, a data analyst and the owner of Data Rockie who provides statistics and data analysis courses that aim to make knowledge regarding data science, coding, and business more accessible.

This session will teach you how to acquire, cleanse, and analyze data in order to turn it into images that are both creative and interesting by using simple coding tools, to employ tips and tricks that help you visualize your ideas, and to create opportunities for your professional world and career using data and creativity. 

2. Topic: Tell Your Story Better with Data and Design 
Date:  7 May (via Zoom)
Time:  9.00-17.30 hrs.

Conducted by Punch Up, a group of creative professionals who work in the industry of media, design, and technology and believe that effective communication is a combination of data, design, and story.  This makes it easy to understand and interesting which leads to creative conversations in the society.

This session will teach you to communicate data and difficult number figures by managing data and building a story in order to create infographics or data storytelling with simple tools. Participants will have hands-on experience throughout the workshop under the supervision of a team from Punch Up who have professional experience in data design and storytelling.

Participants will develop the following skills:

1. Data acquisition, cleansing, and analysis
2. Data management by Google Sheet, Chart Basics and Programming Basics (R)
3. Data storytelling theory and Data Visualization
4. Digital design

Workshop 02: Community Listening in Design 
City and community through the lens of a commune architect

Date: 20 - 22 May 2022 (Onsite)
Location: TCDC Bangkok, Wat Duang Khae Community, Trok Salak Hin

This workshop does not only provide participants with concepts but also help them develop skills for conducting a physical site survey through observing and interacting with community members. Not only participants will form skills for listening, speaking, questioning, data analyzing, basic design based on actual limitations but they also get to practice onsite, devise projects to improve and add value to the community as well as present their project to the community representatives in order to share knowledge and experience.

Conducted by Asst. Prof. Thip Srisakulchairak, an architect and a freelance academic specialized in conservation and development of heritage architectures and neighborhoods. His renowned conservation and renovation projects include Wat Khu Ta in Songkhla, Luang Rajamaitri Historic Inn, Chanthaboon Waterfront Community in Chanthaburi, and a collaboration with Arsom Silp Institute of The Arts.

Workshop 02: Community Listening in Design is appropriate for students, collegians, and first jobbers who already have basic social and physical knowledge or have studied architecture, social science, education, and other related fields that involve developing city and community through design. They must also have the capacity to observe and are open to listen.

Participants will gain the followings:
●    Skills 
      1) Deep Listening 
      2) Conceptualization from a social perspective 
      3) Data collection by observation and conversation 
      4) Presentation
●    Field visit to put lessons from the workshops into practice
●    Advice from experts and coaches as well as comments from community members towards this project.

Development Project Presentation

Participants presented their development projects to develop areas chosen by TCDC Bangkok in front of representatives from both communities in order to exchange ideas to better their project. There were 26 participants in total.

An Overview of Visitations to Two Communities

Participants got to further practice on two communities near Hua Lamphong station, i.e., Trok Salak Hin and Wat Duang Khae communities to begin their development projects.

An Overview of Workshop 02: Community Listening in Design

Participants learned about community development from TCDC Bangkok experts. They later put their newly gained knowledge to practice to develop a skill for identifying problems in areas around the Central Post Office.

This online workshop involved data management and storytelling design in order to create infographics or data storytelling with simple tools. There were 18 participants in total.
