KOCCA and CEA Forge Korea-Thailand Content Collaboration at “Series on Board,” Held 23 - 24 July 2025, at TCDC Bangkok

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) of the Republic of Korea, in partnership with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), has launched “Series on Board” — a pioneering initiative to strengthen Korea-Thailand collaboration in the content industry. Marking its Southeast Asian debut, the event took place from 23 - 24 July 2025, at the Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) in Bangkok. Spearheading Thailand’s efforts, the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization), or CEA, joined forces with key industry players including the Radio-Television Broadcasting Professional Federation (RTBPF) and the Thai Media Fund (TMF). Together, the strategic alliance aimed to unlock global opportunities for Korean and Thai content creators in television and film, with a strong focus on market expansion and intellectual property (IP) cooperation.

As a business-focused platform, “Series on Board” provided Korean content companies with a direct gateway to pitch licensed series to TV networks, streaming platforms, production houses, and international investors. Through live pitching, 1:1 business matching, and high-level networking, the two-day event catalyzed deals in investment, co-production, and international remakes.

The initiative, first piloted by KOCCA in 2023, expanded into a global tour in 2024. Now in its third year, the 2025 edition expanded to five key markets: Korea (Seoul), Japan, Thailand, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Of these, Thailand marked the first foray into Southeast Asia, spotlighting diverse, IP-based series tailored for regional audiences. Not only did the expansion broaden Korea’s cultural presence, it also strengthened regional co-production pipelines. One standout success was the London 2023 edition, which led to the international remake of The Kidnapping Day — a critically acclaimed drama originally produced by renowned Korean studio AStory.

Dr. Chakrit Pichyangkul, Executive Director of CEA, underscored the strategic significance of the partnership: “CEA is committed to advancing Thailand’s creative economy, particularly in the content sector — film and series included. Our goal is to build a globally competitive ecosystem where creative talent thrives. “Series on Board” marks the first milestone in our collaboration with KOCCA, along with Korean content producers and partners in Thailand’s content industry. Together, we share a vision of empowering IP, strengthening international collaborations, and pushing creative content from both countries onto the global stage. Through targeted business matching and high-impact networking, we expect this event to yield tangible, lasting results for the future of our content industries.”
